Be Aware! (A Practice)
What follows is a seemingly simple awareness practice that will bring you face to face with the pull of the programmed unconscious. It’s an excerpt from Chapter 10 , The Nutrition (Eating for LIFE) chapter of my book, Strength for LIFE.

To experience how strong your programmed responses can be, try this: The next time your phone rings, let it. Don’t reach for it—do not even react! It may sound easy but when you feel the pull you’ll swear someone else has a hold of your arm. Feeling the desire to pick up that phone—this is awareness—the gap between action and reaction. The more you practice this pause, the wider it becomes. This is the same pause that you can add to your eating that will be the beginning of Nutritional Freedom. Try it. It’s truly enlightening!
